Description of the Future Track
Digital education is a strategic priority to provide relevant, quality and inclusive help for all citizens to steer or negotiate the digital era and address critical issues of climate change, disinformation and inequality.
The global pandemic has forced a pivot to online delivery of education across the globe while also serving to amplify international trends that were already under way: surging interest in open, asynchronous learning content; repositioning of Asian providers as global leaders; curricular debate around skills, competences and knowledge and how to credential them; student search for better fees and value for money; and, most notably, the exponential increase in the use of the major MOOC platforms, and other educational web services and tools like video conferencing, LMS and online labs. Both on and off campus. With the growing role of edtech giants which are also investing in training, recruitment and employment services.
The spotlight shines once again on Higher Education Institutions as they reflect on strategic and student-centred approaches to governance processes, leadership practices, technology, research and sustainable learning. The Future Track will try to offer a look forward, and open a conversation on the routes that online – and open – education are mapping out to face the challenges of this (brave) new world.
This track will consist of panel sessions, invited talks, and vision statements from relevant, forward-thinking figures in the field of educational technology.
The following is a list for major issues – and possible subtopics – for panel proposals and invited talks at the Future Track.
Resetting HE for the digital age: universities and platforms
- Viral Education: The ecosystem of the platform society
- Integrated systems for all areas of HE institutions processes and activity
- AI + data-driven governance (and data storage) and delivery
Transformation of University during and after the pandemic
- Hybrid University (online + on-campus; synchronous + asynchronous etc.)
- Software vs hardware: online education and digital divide(s)
- Teacher Training in higher education
- Virtual Mobility/Exchange and Orientation as a strategy for internationalization
- Digital credentials + storage or micro-credentials and recognition
- Quality content as key enabler of inclusive education
- Programs for enhancing digital skills and competences
Skills development for a sustainable future
- Smartlearning for smartworking: unprecedented opportunities for a new working environment
- Building resilience: Climate literacy and applied skills development
- Building resilience: Digital literacy and competences and soft skills
